RecruitPKB: When A Coach is Watching

It's that time of year when you will start to see more college coaches out watching the tournaments.  For many players, it is the first time they really get those nervous jitters on the golf course. It can be tough to concentrate and focus on your game. You feel the pressure that you need to play well or else you may lose your chance to impress that coach. You have a few bad holes and wonder if that was it. You may see that the coach is leaving so you start to think they didn't like what they saw. Or maybe you play well and make a really good impression. You drop a few clutch putts, make a couple of birdies, or have some really good saves. So many thoughts and emotions can go through your head that can affect your game. Below are a few things [...]

RecruitPKB: What To Do After A Coach Watches You Play

This week I want to share some tips on what to do after a coach has come out to watch you play. Some of these are relative to where you are in the process with that particular coach but it should give you an idea of things you can do if you know the coach was watching you play. Give them a call. If it is past June 15th prior to junior year, you can give them a call after they came out to watch you play. You may not reach them and get a chance to talk with them but it's a great time to call and get some feedback on what they saw of your game while it's fresh on their mind. You can also give them insight into your game and how you felt about your play which can make a huge difference [...]

RecruitPKB: End of Dead Period Part 3

Based on the timing of the NCAA rules, with the COVID dead period recently ending, you will need to schedule and take visits so that you can meet with the coaches and get a chance to see if it’s going to be a good fit. While visits, especially official visits, are more often being offered on the coaches’ end, you can still request to take an unofficial visit. Be prepared for your visits if you are meeting with the coach. Use the research you did before to have topics of discussion. Be sure you are up to date on how the team played this past season. Make sure you have questions to ask and that you are prepared for any questions you may get asked. Get to know the coach as much as possible. Be observant and attentive. Be gracious and courteous. Say thank you. Sit [...]

RecruitPKB: End of Dead Period Part 2

As you may know, the Covid implemented Dead Period will end on May 31, which means for the first time in over a year DI college coaches can recruit again! This also, means you can take visits that will allow you to meet the coach and athletic staff. For the next couple of weeks, I am going to do some refreshers on these areas to help you better prepare for these exciting experiences! Since you as parents may be out of practice or it will be a new experience to have a coach watch your daughter, I want to give a few tips on what the coaches look for and hope to see in potential recruit's parent behavior. Don’t hover when they are warming up:  Try not to hover over your daughter while she is warming up to play. It is ok to watch her hit balls [...]

RecruitPKB: Parent Tip #2

It is reported that when a young athlete is asked their least favorite moment in sports or why they quit playing, one of the most common answers is the “car ride home”. After a long day on the golf course, everyone is mentally and physically exhausted and while it seems like an ideal time to go over your daughter’s round, let her dictate if and when she talks about it. Give her some space and time as she is already going to be upset with herself if she didn’t play well. If you want to say anything make sure you keep it positive. Let her know that you enjoyed watching her play no matter the results. If you’re going to ask anything, make it about effort and attitude. Ask her if she felt that she did her best. Ask if she felt she showed good sportsmanship. If [...]

RecruitPKB: Thank You for 10 Years

This week I celebrate 10 years of Brandi Jackson Golf (and 8 of those years have been spent as the RecruitPKB College Consultant here at PKB Girls Tour). As I celebrate this milestone I wanted to just share a little for those who may not know my story and how I ended up here. But more importantly to say a big thank you to all of you and to the PKB Girls Tour because it has been an absolute honor and blessing to be in this role and I look for so much more to come! It’s so crazy to think this “little business” that I started while recovering from foot surgery at my parent's house 10 years ago has grown into the love of my life. I had pretty successful junior and senior years at Furman University highlighted by a runner-up finish at the US Women's [...]

RecruitPKB: Have a Definite Offer First

Many 2024 and 2025 recruits are making their decisions now or will be in the coming months, but before you begin to eliminate options that may not seem as ideal, make sure you have a definite offer to at least one school of your choice. Also, do not get confused about what may simply be a potential offer or the assumption you are at the top of the coach's recruiting list until you know for sure. I’ve seen this be a major issue with some recruits not understanding the difference between a potential offer at some point in the process and a definite offer actually given to you to accept. Also, some recruits may not realize that a coach is telling multiple recruits very similar things until he/she makes their decision on who they want to actually give their offer to. So make sure you know where [...]
