Last week's article talked about the difference between practice rounds and tournament rounds for scoring. Below are some thoughts on ways to maximize your time during a practice round and better prepare for the tournament. Please keep in mind that this is not to encourage slow play during a practice round nor break any rules that a junior tour has enforced regarding practice rounds. Only apply these if and when they are applicable and acceptable. If you have a yardage book write down targets that you plan to aim at off the tee (ex. edge of a bunker, tree trunk, etc). It is difficult to have the accountability, structure, and motivation to truly practice with a purpose as a young golfer. RecruitPKB: Favorite Putting Drill

One of my favorite putting drills from my college and professional days is something very simple but extremely effective at building confidence and putting a little bit of pressure on making those short putts when it counts. There are several different variations of this one drill which is why I like it so much. Below are a few options to get you started. 3, 5, 7, 9ft line - Place a tee at 3ft, 5ft, 7ft and 9ft in a line on one side of hole. Begin with a fairly flat putt. PerformPKB: Making practice more effective, efficient and productive

My Why- To do everything I can to give every player the best opportunity possible to accomplish their dreams and goals. My belief is that helping a player involves the technical and mechanical aspects (including having the proper clubs), the physical, and the psychological (including strategy).   I believe strongly in the process of improving, and I believe this process is greatly enhanced by measuring and tracking progress in practice, non-tournament play, and tournament play.   I don't believe that there is one perfect approach for all players, but I do believe that players that develop deeper awareness of how to practice and prepare have a much higher probability of accomplishing their dreams.  I use this program to determine how a player can best utilize his/her time to improve. Last week I talked about the importance of knowing the "why" behind your goals and now this week I want to talk about the difference between long term, short term, and process goals. All three are important but knowing the difference and which ones to focus on can be the difference in achieving them or not. Goals are normally thought of as future achievements. RecruitPKB: Trying Out Competitive Golf Again

For those who may follow my social media (@bjacksongolf) you probably saw that I decided to play some competitive golf again for the first time in almost 8 years. My last full season was in 2009 where I played 11 LPGA Tour events that year and the rest on the Symetra Tour, then I only played a handful of events on the Symetra Tour in 2010 and officially gave up full time playing by 2011 so it has been quite a while since I played competitively. RecruitPKB: Ladder Drill

No matter how good of a short game you may have, it never hurts to work on basic fundamentals. This ladder drill is a great way to work on consistency with your chipping. If you can't consistently land the golf ball where you want to on the green then you are keeping yourself from maximizing your potential. There are several different ways to keep the ladder drill engaging and creative. Lay 3 or 4 clubs or alignment sticks a few feet onto the green. Leaving about 3 feet in between each one. Try to land a ball inside each space in a row going up the ladder, repeat coming back down. If you miss a space then start over. Repeat with a different club.
