RecruitPKB: What You Can Learn From Sept 1st

By |2017-09-13T11:49:04-04:00September 15th, 2016|College Recruiting Articles|0 Comments

Now that the excitement of September 1st has worn off a bit I want to take the time to address a few things that you can learn from the communication you received (or didn't receive) on September 1st and how it can be a lesson for your own communication with the coaches. Mass email vs Personalized Email: Many of my players forwarded emails they received from coaches with excitement, unfortunately, those same emails were sent out to several others players that I consult. Keep this in mind when reading the emails, if there is nothing personal in the email (just your name does not count as personalized) then it may mean you are not a high priority on that coaches list. It does not necessarily mean that the coach isn't interested and they may simply be trying to find out who replies back but do know that [...]

RecruitPKB: Practice your Weaknesses

By |2017-09-13T11:45:19-04:00August 25th, 2016|College Recruiting Articles|0 Comments

I'm sure many of you have heard the saying that "you're only as strong as your weakest link". Well, the same applies for your golf game. In order to become a complete player, you must identify your weaknesses and practice them. It's human nature to want to practice the things you are good at instead of the things you struggle with the most. I caught myself facing this same issue early in my professional career. My college boyfriend was a good golfer and came out to caddy for me during a tournament. He noticed that most of my missed shots and bogeys were with my longer irons. He also noticed that during practice I hit twice as many shots with my short irons as I did with my long irons. So I decided to focus on hitting more shots with my long irons than I did any [...]

RecruitPKB: Simple Short Game Drill

By |2017-09-13T11:45:20-04:00July 20th, 2016|College Recruiting Articles|0 Comments

This is by far the most productive, true to real golf, short game drill you can practice. It is also one of the simplest ones. This was always a part of our weekly drills when I played at Furman and it made a huge difference in my short game confidence. Our coach would set it up for us and give us a target score. You can also play this as a match against a partner. If possible, I believe it works best when you set all 9 holes up ahead of time. Otherwise you may catch yourself making the last few shots easy to insure you beat your target score. Play 9 (or 18) holes of up and down. Give yourself a target score (ex. 27). Create different types of short game shots (lob, bump n run, bunker, flop). Go through your routine as if you are [...]

RecruitPKB: Etiquette on Visits

By |2017-09-13T11:49:05-04:00July 7th, 2016|College Recruiting Articles|0 Comments

Many junior golfers have been taking advantage of the summer months by scheduling unofficial visits with college coaches. This is a great time to catch a coach in their office or visit a campus while you are out traveling for tournaments. Below are a few things for both junior golfers and their parents to keep in mind. For junior golfers: Leave your cell phone in the car. To keep you from even being tempted to check your phone during the visit it is best to just leave it in the car. Look the coach in the eye and firmly shake their hand when you walk into their office. Sit up straight in the chair. Don't slouch and slump. Be enthusiastic. Make sure the coach knows you are excited to be there. Ask questions. The worst thing you can do when I coach asks if you have any [...]
