Coach Communications 101

Email Etiquette:
- Always address to the coach specifically
- Check grammar and spelling
- Make sure you attach any documents
- Have an appropriate email address
- Create a signature
- Avoid humor or sarcasm
Being Proactive with Emails:
- Start early
- Check email daily
- Send updates
- Respond quickly
- If past Sept 1 of junior year ask questions
- Provide your reference’s contact info
Phone Call Etiquette:
- Be prepared to talk not just leave a message
- Try to avoid the Uhs and Ums
- Have questions and topics to discuss
Being Proactive with Phone Calls:
- Follow up intro email with phone call
- Don’t be scared
- Call after tourneys especially if coach watched
Etiquette on Visits:
- Shake hands, look in eye, smile
- Sit up straight
- Speak for yourself
- Be enthusiastic
- Yes sir/m’am, thank you, please
- No phones
- Send thank you note after
Being Proactive with Visits:
- Take visits early
- Ask your coach for help to contact coaches
- Be realistic and plan your travel
