This week I celebrate 10 years of Brandi Jackson Golf (and 8 of those years have been spent as the RecruitPKB College Consultant here at PKB Girls Tour). As I celebrate this milestone I wanted to just share a little for those who may not know my story and how I ended up here. But more importantly to say a big thank you to all of you and to the PKB Girls Tour because it has been an absolute honor and blessing to be in this role and I look for so much more to come!
It’s so crazy to think this “little business” that I started while recovering from foot surgery at my parent’s house 10 years ago has grown into the love of my life.
I had pretty successful junior and senior years at Furman University highlighted by a runner-up finish at the US Women’s Am (the inspiration behind the first BJGolf logo), a win at the NCAA East Regionals, and a trip to NCAA Nationals as an individual. This kicked off my transition into playing professional golf as that had been my dream since I was 8 years old. Despite earning my LPGA tour card on my first attempt for the 2004 season, I never managed to get confident and comfortable enough on that stage to maintain my status and make a living.
After not retaining my LPGA status for the 2010 season, I began to work for a large multi-sport college recruiting service while still playing several Symetra Tour events. I conducted recruiting seminars, which was my initiation into public speaking, and eventually took on the role of recruiting coach for all of the company’s golf families. After getting the bug to work with junior golfers, I decided there needed to be a female consultant among the guys who I knew had similar businesses that focused on more personalized consulting for junior golfers.
So I laid out the plan, tossed around a million different names, had my website redesigned from tour player to a college recruiting business, and dove right in! I gave my resignation letter to the recruiting company and officially launched Brandi Jackson Golf on April 29, 2011. While I will always wonder what life would be like had my professional golf career been more successful, I can not imagine doing anything else with my life than what I do now.
The opportunity to even be just a small part of a young lady’s growth and maturity while working towards their goal of playing college golf is something I do not take for granted, nor take lightly. I am extremely honored and grateful for the relationships with the college coaches across the country who support my approach in working with these girls to ensure they are one step closer to a more successful transition to college golf. And I am thankful for the many parents who have put their trust in me as a consultant, coach, and mentor for their daughters.
Thank you for 10 years of support, encouragement, and motivation to consult the next generation of young female golfers!
