Recruit PKB: Accountability Partner
Accountability is one factor many junior golfers struggle with when it comes to practice. It's very easy to hit some range balls, maybe do some chipping and putting drills, then call it a day. Even for those players who practice several hours a day they rarely get the most out of their time. One of the best ways to get more out of your practice is to find an accountability partner. Just as many people do when they want to lose weight, quit a bad habit or train for a marathon, they find somebody who will hold them accountable for their daily decisions, actions, and progress. It doesn't even have to be someone who is physically there with you either, just check-ins via phone can even make a big difference. Golf is one of the few sports where most of your practice is done on your own, without a team or coach. So find a friend, teammate or parent who will hold you accountable [...]
RecruitPKB: Club Golf in College
The goal for most young female golfers is to move on to play varsity golf in college, however, that plan doesn't always work out when the school of your choice and the golf program's needs for a player like yourself don't match up. If this does happen to you, it doesn't mean you have to give up playing golf once you get to college. The statistics on playing varsity golf in college aren’t exactly optimistic. According to the NCAA, only 2% of male high school golfers will play Division 1, and 3% for females. For students that don’t go to Division 1 though, there’s still plenty of options available. Division 2, Division 3, NAIA, NJCAA, as well as several smaller leagues provide a competitive outlet for students. One option that is often overlooked is non-varsity college golf. Club golf has grown tremendously in the last couple years in particular, with over 300 colleges now fielding a club golf team on campus. The governing body [...]
PerformPKB: A Professional Golfer Likes a Challenge – Here’s Why
When everyone else is doing one thing and you believe in something different, do you have the courage to challenge everyone else, stick to your belief, and fight for it? Seriously, think about the last time you were in a situation where everyone agreed on one idea, activity, or way of doing things and you didn’t necessarily agree. Did you go along with everyone else or did you challenge them? It is never a comfortable thing to challenge the status quo and do things differently, yet this is a common thread that the most successful people in the world share. Warren Buffet’s investment strategy was different 50 years ago and he has stuck to it regardless. He’s done OK for himself. Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett defied the doubters and skipped college to go straight to the NBA paving the way for the likes of Lebron James and company to start making their millions without having to waste a year in the NCAA’s business. [...]

Our first installment of Shaping YOUR Success features Riley, a PKBGT alumni who has trained at Par4Success. I came ready to take on the challenge of a full schedule [...]
PerformPKB: Mind Over Matter for the Competitive Athlete
As a competitive athlete and strength coach, I can say with the utmost confidence that mindset is everything when it comes to performance. Whether you are at the Olympic level, a local athlete, or your average Joe looking to drop a couple lbs, if you are not in a state of mind where you can be motivated, or look to improve day in and day out, it’s going to be a lot tougher to get to where you want to be. My Experience There are numerous studies done on how things like positive self-talk and visualization helps us as athletes and humans to perform at their highest level. As a competitive powerlifter, I can attest to the fact that these two things are amazing tools in preparing mindset for competition. On my journey to my first Raw Nationals in 2017, I would go on long walks every single day. I used these walks as an opportunity to visualize myself squatting my goal weight, benching my goal [...]
Recruit PKB: College Coach Perspective
Some insight from college coaches on what junior golfers can do beyond their games to prepare for college golf. What else beyond their golf game can they do to better prepare for college golf? "Time management is the biggest problem for Freshman. If you can start making a weekly schedule now it will help you when you get to college." – Division 1 Women’s Coach “Work hard in school. Take Honors and AP classes. The harder you work in high school, the easier it will be in college. You'll have a better foundation and be less stressed about golf. You cannot work too hard in high school!!” – Division 1 Women’s Coach “Academics! 9th grade means as much as 12th grade. The better your grades the better options you will have for scholarship opportunities.” – Division 1 Women’s Coach “Improved interpersonal communications skills; modern technology has all but killed the ability for young players to hold meaningful conversations. Improved time management skills to help [...]
PerformPKB: Rise Above the Competition by Trying Something New
The best note to remember in any competitive setting is that there is a big difference between losing and failing. In fact, we want to strive to fail because this means we are learning from pushing our boundaries. Part of daring to be different requires you to try new things as part of your personal growth towards whatever your personal goals are. This can apply to achievement in sports, business, family life and any other number of things, but what I’d like to talk about is how it relates to taking care of your body. I see and talk to so many people on a daily basis who are stuck in ruts but haven’t been willing to change. Trying new approaches is different and most people don’t like different. These are some of my favorites: The person who has had the same workout regimen for years and is constantly getting hurt… They swear it’s normal to get injured working out. The person who has [...]

RecruitPKB: Trying Out Competitive Golf Again
For those who may follow my social media (@bjacksongolf) you probably saw that I decided to play some competitive golf again for the first time in almost 8 years. My last full season was in 2009 where I played 11 LPGA Tour events that year and the rest on the Symetra Tour, then I only played a handful of events on the Symetra Tour in 2010 and officially gave up full time playing by 2011 so it has been quite a while since I played competitively. And within those 8 years since "retirement" I don't exactly play much golf period, except a few charity outings every year so this was quite the decision to play some competitive golf again. So for the last 4-5 weeks, I tried to commit some time each week to practicing and playing some rounds of golf. I switched my workouts from training for strength/conditioning competitions to more golf specific workouts with my trainer at Knight Performance Factory I got [...]
PerformPKB: Train Slow to Swing Fast
*As seen in GOLFWRX* You are probably reading this article because the title made zero sense to you when you read it. You are probably thinking, “Slow training makes me go fast? Everyone knows you have to train fast if you want to go fast. We have all seen SuperSpeed Golf’s commercials. This guy is an idiot.” With that rationale, not sure I can blame you! If you’re a golfer and you want to move the clubhead faster, with more efficiency and for many more years to come, however, I encourage you to read on with a bit of curiosity and even skepticism if that is more your flavor. What you find out might turn the way you train 180 degrees onto its head. I know it did for me. When I started training athletes more than 10 years ago, I subscribed to the “train fast to be fast” mentality for a while. Then, thankfully, I read the research out there and realized how [...]
