RecruitPKB: Austin Ernst Q and A

This past week Austin Ernst was kind enough to answer some questions as part of the PKBGT Invitational festivities. She was down in Florida preparing for her upcoming LPGA event, where she had a hole in one and won a 2-year lease for a Lamborghini when she sat down and filmed these for us. RecruitPKB: Resume or Questionnaire

Based on a survey I conducted to coaches these were the results on whether to send your resume or questionnaire: Both: 54% Resume Only: 38% Either: 8% Questionnaire Only: 0% So I think the evidence is pretty clear, at a minimum the resume is a must over just filling out the questionnaire. And if you’re really interested, it’s probably a good idea to fill out both! Many times a player's resume does not include all that a coach needs to see so they may automatically default you to fill out the questionnaire to make sure you give them the info needed to properly evaluate you. So if they request that or you find it online, take the time to fill it out, along with sending a good quality resume and a well-written intro email.   If you need any assistance with developing your resume or contacting coaches please contact Recruit PKB College Recruiting Consultant Brandi Jackson at bjackson@pkbgt.org.

RecruitPKB: Columbia University Coach

Catch another episode of Tap Into College Golf with some great insight from Columbia University’s Head Women’s Golf Coach Amy Weeks. Even if you aren’t looking to play at an Ivy League institution this chat with Coach Weeks is insightful and entertaining! One of her philosophies for the team is that you have to contribute somehow, so if it’s not with scores, it’s gotta be some other way. You must contribute to the team! The team’s favorite food is Pho. Columbia University was recently ranked #2 among national universities Hear all about it in this 33rd episode! RecruitPKB: Update Your Goals

I had a dream when I was 8 years old that I wanted to play on the LPGA Tour and I am beyond grateful and proud of the fact that I can say I achieved my dream. The problem is I never thought to readjust that dream as my golf career progressed and create an even bigger dream. I may have thought it in my mind but eventually, I grew to a state of just wishing it would happen for me. Finish in top 10 Win a tourney Finish top 30 on the money list Make Solheim Cup Rookie of the Year Play in Evian and British Open Etc... I never made the effort to get out there and actually make it happen! I was stuck in the effort it took to get there and never readjusted the plan to do more. Dreams and goals are great but neither matter if you aren't willing to do everything in your power to make them happen! [...]

RecruitPKB: Tips for Visits

Below are a few things for both girls and their parents to keep in mind when taking visits. For Junior Golfers: Dress appropriately. Golf attire is fine or a nice casual outfit. Wear comfortable shoes. Always go for more conservative, nothing too short, thin straps, or low cut. Leave your phone alone. To keep you from even being tempted to check your phone during the visit it is best to just leave it in the car or your bag while you are on a visit. Look the coach in the eye and firmly shake their hand when you walk into their office. Sit up straight in the chair. Don’t slouch and slump. Be enthusiastic. Make sure the coach knows you are excited to be there. Ask questions. The worst thing you can do when a coach asks if you have any questions is to say “no”. Jot a few questions down on a notepad and take it in with you. Speak for yourself. Try to avoid always [...]
